“Amelia’s Glaze Club course was fantastic! She really knows her chemistry and glazes. I gained a lot of confidence in making glazes and a greater appreciation of the whole glaze-making process. Thank you.” – Ariet J, June 2024
Ever wondered how to make your own glazes?
Buying pre-mixed glazes is like baking from a packet cake mix—convenient, but everyone’s results look the same. With a bit of guidance, you can start crafting your own glaze recipes that are both unique and cost-effective!
These 4-week short courses are designed to complement your studio practice and offer a focused deep-dive into ceramic glaze development.
Introduction to Glazes
April 29 – May 20
No experience required!
A perfect introduction for anyone curious about the glaze-making process.
Over four weeks, you’ll learn:
- The fundamentals of glaze materials and terminology
- How to read and understand glaze recipes
- Mixing your own glazes from raw materials
- How to use colourants to develop your own glaze colours
- Sound testing methods for reliable and repeatable results
Intermediate Glaze Projects
May 26 – June 17
Pre-requisite: Completion of Introduction to Glazes (above) or a similar Glaze Club course either with us or elsewhere.
This course is for those who have a basic understanding but are ready to take their glaze practice further.
You’ll learn how to:
- Explore special-effect glazes
- Undertake a personal glaze project, developing a test glaze from tile to pot
- Fine-tune and reproduce your glaze with accuracy
Both classes are held Tuesday evenings, 6–8.30pm
Take one or both—they’re designed as stand-alone short courses or as excellent add-ons to your ongoing ceramic studies.
If you’re especially drawn to exploratory surface treatments and the art of layering, consider joining Amelia’s Extended Surface class on Thursday mornings for further exploration.
