About: our fun-packed Weekend Intensive Wheel Course covers the same course content as our popular 8-week term of Beginner’s Wheel and is open to all levels who wish to learn our special ergonomic techniques based on techniques Jane learnt as an apprentice in Japan.
Who is this for? Some people can’t attend our weekly course; are from interstate/international; or just like the idea of a big hit of learning; and this is a chance to visit inner-city Melbourne for the weekend, have a night out and learn some amazing techniques by day! Although we focus on complete Beginners we also differentiate for individual differences if you have prior experience and/or simply wish to learn our method based on Japanese techniques. We welcome all levels and advanced people too!

“Japanese method of throwing. Excellent demonstrations resulting in all students completing many different pots. Slip design and various decorative finishes demonstrated encouraging individual design .” Simone, July 2025
“I have just arrived home feeling tired but very satisfied and inspired after a jam-packed weekend intensive led by highly skilled potter and teacher, Jane Sawyer, and ably supported by her lovely and capable assistant Alyssa Nuttall. I came to the class as someone who had thrown pots several years ago but was very rusty. Jane was able to adapt what she was teaching to suit different levels of experience and I learnt the ‘slow clay’ techniques that I am keen to adopt as a new, ergonomic and more sustainable way of working on the wheel. I highly recommend this course.” Fiona, 14/11/21
